BALI: Indonesian fast bowler Gede Priandana etched his name into the record books on Tuesday after delivering a spell never before witnessed in international T20 cricket. The 28-year-old right-arm pacer became the first player in men’s or women’s T20Is to take five wickets in a single over, a historic moment achieved during the opening T20I against Cambodia at the Udayana Cricket Ground.
Priandana’s remarkable feat powered Indonesia to a comprehensive 60-run victory and marked a milestone not only for the player but also for Indonesian cricket on the global stage.
Defending a competitive total of 167, Indonesia appeared to be in a tight contest as Cambodia reached 106 for five after 15 overs, still within striking distance of the target. However, the match turned decisively in the 16th over when Priandana was introduced into the attack for the first time.
What followed was a dramatic and unprecedented collapse. Priandana struck with his very first delivery, dismissing Shah Abrar Hussain, and followed it up by removing Nirmaljit Singh and Chanthoeun Rathanak off consecutive balls to complete a stunning hat-trick. After delivering a dot ball, the Indonesian pacer continued his demolition by claiming the wickets of Mongdara Sok and Pel Vennak, conceding only a single wide in the entire over.

The five-wicket burst left Cambodia reeling and effectively ended their chase, as they were bowled out well short of the required total. With official fall-of-wicket data confirming the achievement, Priandana became the first bowler in T20 international history—across both men’s and women’s formats—to take five wickets in one over.
Earlier in the match, Priandana also made a contribution with the bat, scoring six runs at the top of the order alongside wicketkeeper-batter Dharma Kesuma. Kesuma played a defining role in setting up Indonesia’s total, producing a commanding unbeaten knock of 110 from 68 deliveries. His innings featured eight boundaries and six towering sixes, anchoring the innings and putting sustained pressure on the Cambodian bowling attack.
Indonesia’s total of 167 proved well beyond Cambodia’s reach, especially after Priandana’s extraordinary bowling display shattered any remaining hopes of a successful chase.
While five wickets in an over have occurred twice in men’s domestic T20 cricket—achieved by Bangladesh’s Al-Amin Hossain during the 2013–14 season and India’s Abhimanyu Mithun in the 2019–20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy—Priandana’s accomplishment stands alone at the international level.
The historic spell highlights the growing competitiveness of associate cricket nations and places Indonesian cricket firmly in the spotlight. For Gede Priandana, the record-breaking over will be remembered as one of the most extraordinary moments ever produced in T20 international cricket.
