LAHORE: Despite reports that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman had been invited to the Indian Premier League 2026 final in Ahmedabad, Mohsin Naqvi is probably not making it to India.
As per an international cricket news report, the invitation extended to Naqvi is mainly related to the upcoming meetings of the International Cricket Council and not the IPL final itself.
The clarification comes after speculation emerged about a possible visit by the PCB chairman to Ahmedabad, where the IPL 2026 final is slated to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 31.
Sources also said that Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s interior minister, would likely join the ICC discussions virtually rather than travel in person.
The ICC is scheduled to hold a series of meetings later this month, beginning with the ICC Chief Executives’ Committee (CEC) meeting on May 21 and board meetings on May 30 and 31 in Ahmedabad.
The IPL final coincided with the meetings, leading to speculation of possible high-level cricket diplomacy between the neighboring countries.
However, reports say that the CEC meeting will be held virtually, and there is no indication that men’s cricket will be part of the agenda.
Instead, the agenda is likely to be women’s cricket and commercial issues such as data monetization and mobile gaming.
The proposed restructuring of the ICC World Test Championship is also unlikely to be discussed in the CEC session, with major decisions likely to be made later during the ICC Board meetings in Ahmedabad.
