RAWALPINDI: Pakistan middle-order batter Hasan Nawaz reflected on Pakistan’s defeat to India in Asian Games 2026 final.
Hasan scored 96 off 51 balls, hitting seven sixes and five fours in Pakistan’s steep chase of 212. However, his effort was not enough as Pakistan lost by a narrow margin of 19 runs.
Speaking to the reporters on the sidelines of the national team’s training session, Hasan said he was looking to improve after going down to India in the Asian Games final.
“We were not able to win the match against [India] because of the situation we were in. The match was very close, and we made a lot of small mistakes which led to us losing,” he said.
“When you lose, and if you are stuck in that thing, how will you move forward? So, when you make mistakes, you learn and move forward. And we will try not to repeat the mistakes we made there,” he added.
The right-handed batter said there was plenty of cricket left and that the learning process never stops.
“This cricket is not over yet. There will be a match with them again. We will make new mistakes again. And we will try to win the match. So, this is just a part of the game,” he insisted.
Hasan stated that playing against a top team gives him a lot of confidence. He lamented on missing out on gold medal due to small mistakes.
“And you get a lot of confidence to perform against them. And when I was going to Japan from CPL, I had planned to do something for my country and to win a gold medal, but there were small mistakes which led to us losing the match. And I got a lot of confidence to perform against them,” Hasan continued.
He disclosed that he had the backing of the coaching staff after losing his place in the Pakistan side
“Yes, when I dropped out of the team, Mike and all the coaches gave me a lot of plans. And I worked on that,” he concluded.
The T20I series opener between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be played on 9 October at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
