Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has officially announced a 17-member squad for the upcoming three-match One Day International (ODI) series against England, with Charith Asalanka retained as captain. The announcement was made on Wednesday, putting an end to speculation regarding leadership changes in the ODI setup.
The ODI series is scheduled to begin on Thursday, January 22, and will conclude on Tuesday, January 27. Following the ODIs, both teams will shift focus to the shorter format, with a three-match T20 International series starting on Friday, January 30, and ending on Tuesday, February 3.
Asalanka’s position as ODI skipper had been under discussion after he was recently replaced as Sri Lanka’s T20I captain. However, SLC has shown confidence in the all-rounder by continuing his leadership role in the 50-over format, signaling stability ahead of an important home series.
England last toured Sri Lanka for an ODI series in 2018, where they emerged victorious with a 3-1 series win. With a refreshed squad and home conditions in their favor, Sri Lanka will be aiming to turn the tables and make a strong statement against the visiting side.
The series is expected to play a key role in shaping Sri Lanka’s ODI future as preparations continue for major international tournaments.
