Pakistan have been fined five per cent of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate during their ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2026 semi-final against Sri Lanka in Dubai.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that Pakistan were one over behind the required rate after time allowances were taken into account.
GS Lakshmi, from the ICC International Panel of Match Referees, imposed the sanction under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. The provision covers minimum over-rate offences and stipulates a fine of five per cent of a player’s match fee for each over a team fails to complete within the allotted time.
Pakistan captain Fatima Sana accepted the charge on behalf of the team, meaning a formal hearing was not necessary.
The charge was brought by on-field umpires Vrinda Rathi and Shathira Jakir Jesy, along with third umpire Rokeya Sultana and fourth umpire Rabab Ahsan.
Kranti Gaud Also Penalised
India pacer Kranti Gaud was separately fined 10 per cent of her match fee for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka in Dubai on Sunday.
Gaud was found to have violated Article 2.5, which concerns language, actions or gestures that disparage a batter or could provoke an aggressive reaction following their dismissal during an international match.
The incident occurred during the opening over of Sri Lanka’s innings. After dismissing opener Imesha Dulani, Gaud made a gesture towards the pavilion.
The India pacer admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Supriya Rani Das of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. As a result, no formal hearing was required.
On-field umpires Saleema Imtiaz and Shathira Jakir Jesy, third umpire Rokeya Sultana and fourth umpire Humaira Farah had levelled the charge against Gaud.
The disciplinary action also resulted in one demerit point being added to Gaud’s record. It was her first offence during a 24-month period.
Level 1 violations under the ICC Code of Conduct can result in an official reprimand as the minimum penalty, while the maximum punishment is a fine of 50 per cent of the player’s match fee. Such breaches can also carry one or two demerit points.
