Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has confirmed that he has made a full recovery from injury and is back batting as he steps up preparations for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.
The experienced left-hander is currently taking part in the Pakistan Cricket Board’s white-ball training camp at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.
Speaking during the camp, Fakhar said he has regained full fitness and is eager to return to competitive cricket in the upcoming National Champions Cup.
“I have fully recovered and started batting again. I plan to return to competitive cricket in the upcoming National Champions Cup,” Fakhar said.
The 36-year-old also praised the extended white-ball camp, saying it has given players valuable time to work on technical and tactical areas that are often overlooked during a busy international calendar.
According to Fakhar, the coaching staff have used the past two to three months to identify aspects of players’ games that are difficult to address while international matches are being played regularly. He said the National Cricket Academy has created an environment where players can focus on improving those areas.
With more than a year remaining before the 2027 World Cup, Fakhar believes the ongoing preparations will help Pakistan develop a stronger squad for the tournament. He added that the camp has also provided an opportunity for emerging cricketers to impress the team management.
“There are several players who were not previously on the management’s radar, but they have displayed their talent during the camp, which will certainly benefit them in the future,” he said.
Fakhar also revealed that discussions have taken place with the coaching staff regarding his batting role, although he chose not to disclose the details publicly.
“We have discussed the batting order with the management, but some matters cannot be shared publicly. I always think about what the team needs, and that remains my priority,” Fakhar said.
He stressed that while every player has personal preferences, the team’s objectives remain the most important factor.
“Every player has personal preferences, but not everything can be discussed in the media. The important thing is that we are all on the same page.”
Looking ahead to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, Fakhar expressed optimism about Pakistan’s chances, particularly because several matches are scheduled to be played in South Africa, where he has previously enjoyed success.
“I have many good memories of playing in South Africa. The bouncy pitches suit my style of batting, and I am preparing with the 2027 World Cup firmly in mind,” Fakhar said.
