SYLHET: Bangladesh produced a historic 2-0 Test series whitewash over Pakistan after clinching a 78-run victory in the second match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
Pakistan, chasing a daunting target of 437, were bowled out for 358 despite a fighting 94 from Mohammad Rizwan.
It was Bangladesh’s first-ever whitewash of a home Test series against Pakistan, following their historic whitewash of the same opposition on Pakistan’s tour in 2024.
Taijul Islam, the Bangladesh spinner, excelled with the ball, claiming six wickets in the fourth innings, effectively extinguishing Pakistan’s hopes of a challenging chase.
They resumed on Day 5 on 316-7 with Rizwan not out on 75 and Sajid Khan at 8, still needing 121 to win.

The pair came back well after a short rain break and put on a valuable 54-run partnership to take Pakistan past the 350-run mark and frustrate the hosts for a while.
But it was Taijul Islam who provided the vital breakthrough, removing Sajid Khan, who played a crucial knock of 28 off 36 balls with five boundaries.
The wicket sparked a collapse as Pakistan could not add any more runs to the total.
Shoriful Islam ended the stubborn resistance by the wicketkeeper batter, who struck 10 boundaries, when he dismissed Rizwan for 94 off 166 balls in the next over.
Taijul then completed the innings by getting Khurram Shahzad for a duck to seal Bangladesh’s memorable victory.
Taijul bagged six wickets and was supported by Nahid Rana and Shoriful Islam, who took two wickets each, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who claimed one.
