KARACHI: Peshawar Zalmi delivered a batting masterclass on Sunday night, rewriting PSL record books with a commanding performance against Quetta Gladiators in the 29th match of PSL 11 at the National Bank Stadium.
Led by an outstanding captain’s knock, Babar Azam struck an unbeaten century to anchor Zalmi to a towering 255 for 3 after they were asked to bat first. The innings was built on controlled aggression and sustained pressure, with Babar and Sri Lankan batter Kusal Mendis forming the backbone of the total through a dominant second-wicket stand.
Once the opening momentum was established, Zalmi never let the scoring rate drop, steadily accelerating through the middle and death overs to post a total that left the opposition under immense strain.
The 255-run mark now stands as the highest team total ever recorded at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi during a PSL match, surpassing Zalmi’s own earlier record of 246 for 3 against Karachi Kings in the same season.
It also represents the franchise’s highest-ever PSL total, overtaking their previous best, again set against Karachi Kings earlier in the tournament.
On a broader scale, this innings goes down as the third-highest team total in PSL history. Only Multan Sultans’ 262 for 3 and Quetta Gladiators’ 263 for 3 against Islamabad United in a previous edition sit above it in the all-time rankings.
