Sri Lanka Cricket has officially confirmed a revised schedule for the sixth edition of the Lanka Premier League, with the competition now slated to begin on July 10 and conclude with a grand final on August 5, 2026.
The road to this date has been anything but straightforward. The tournament was originally pencilled in for a November-December 2025 slot, only to be shelved in October of that year as the cricket board shifted focus toward co-hosting the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup alongside India — a marquee event that ran from February 7 to March 8. By December, SLC had mapped out a fresh mid-year window starting July 8, but the latest communiqué nudges that start date forward by two days while also bringing the final two weeks closer, trimming the overall window from one set out in December.
One notable omission in Wednesday’s announcement: the SLC did not confirm how many franchises will take part, a step back from the previous update which had indicated five teams. What the board did confirm is the tournament’s four-venue footprint, which spans the country’s most celebrated cricket grounds — the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground and R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in the capital Colombo, Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, and Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium in Dambulla.
“The Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026 will be held from 10th July to 5 August 2026, played across four venues: SSC, Colombo; RPICS, Colombo; PICS, Pallekele; and RDICS, Dambulla.”

For overseas players eyeing a spot in the competition, the board announced that the foreign player registration portal will go live on May 4, giving international talent a structured pathway into the draft process well ahead of the tournament’s commencement.
The LPL last took centre stage in July 2024, when the fifth edition produced a compelling final between Jaffna Kings and Galle Marvels. The Kings emerged triumphant, claiming their third title — cementing their status as the most decorated franchise in the league’s short but storied history. As anticipation builds for the 2026 renewal, fans and players alike will be watching closely for further details on team composition and the full fixture list.
