Shahid Afridi Meets General Asim Munir, Stresses Importance of Focused Cricket Leadership
Rawalpindi – Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Khan Afridi recently met with Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir in Rawalpindi. During the meeting, Afridi offered heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of the Army Chief’s mother.
In a candid discussion, Shahid Afridi emphasized that cricket remains the primary source of joy and unity in Pakistan, calling it a much-needed escape for the public in difficult times. He praised PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, describing him as a “dedicated and sincere individual” who truly wants to uplift the sport in the country.
However, Afridi expressed concerns regarding Mohsin Naqvi holding dual responsibilities—as both Interior Minister and PCB Chairman. “Both roles demand full-time attention and commitment. It is not practical for one person to effectively manage two such significant positions,” Afridi remarked.
The former skipper suggested that if Mohsin Naqvi focuses solely on the PCB, it would bring long-term benefits to Pakistan cricket. “Cricket requires complete dedication. With undivided attention, Mohsin Naqvi’s energy and vision can bring real change,” he added.
Sources also indicate that in a recent meeting at the PCB headquarters in Lahore, Afridi once again stressed the importance of choosing one role. While he lauded Naqvi’s efforts, he reiterated that balancing two demanding jobs might hinder progress.
Moreover, reports reveal that during the upcoming T20 World Cup in the United States this June, Mohsin Naqvi offered Shahid Afridi a role within the PCB. Afridi, while acknowledging his packed schedule, responded with a patriotic spirit: “Despite being busy, I’m always ready to serve Pakistan.”
