India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from a Sydney hospital after suffering a spleen laceration during the third One-Day International against Australia on October 25.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed in an official statement that Iyer is now stable and recovering well after undergoing a minor medical procedure to stop internal bleeding.

“The injury was promptly identified, and bleeding was arrested following a minor procedure,” said BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia. “He has received the best possible treatment, and we are pleased with his steady recovery.”

Iyer will remain in Sydney for continued observation and medical evaluation before being cleared to travel back to India.

The 30-year-old batter was treated by Dr. Koroush Haghighi and his team in Sydney, with support from Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala in India.

Iyer sustained the injury while taking a diving catch to dismiss Alex Carey during the match. He was later seen holding his rib area and immediately signaled for medical assistance before being taken off the field.

Subsequent scans revealed internal bleeding caused by the spleen laceration, leading to his brief stay in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for observation and recovery.

Although India won the final ODI by nine wickets, they eventually lost the three-match series 2–1. The visitors currently trail 1–0 in the ongoing T20I series against Australia.
