DUBAI: Sources have revealed that Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice-President and senior official Rajeev Shukla has urged Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi to hand over the Asia Cup 2025 trophy, during a recent ACC meeting held in Dubai.
The meeting was chaired by Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Insiders confirm that the trophy issue was not part of the meeting’s official agenda, yet Shukla reportedly raised the demand repeatedly.
According to sources, Naqvi responded firmly, stating that if the Indian team truly wanted the silverware, Suryakumar Yadav would have to personally visit his office to collect it.
This development follows the dramatic Asia Cup 2025 final trophy controversy, where the Indian team declined to accept the award from the ACC President. Reports suggest the presentation ceremony was delayed by nearly an hour because India was unwilling to receive the trophy directly from Naqvi.
Eventually, the stage was prepared for the ceremony, with Naqvi and other dignitaries in attendance. However, the event ended awkwardly—the trophy was never presented. Instead, Indian players celebrated their victory in an unusual manner, humorously mimicking the trophy rather than lifting the official silverware.
The standoff has intensified tensions between the two cricket boards, leaving the fate of the Asia Cup trophy handover in question.
