MUMBAI: West Indies produced a commanding performance against Nepal, cruising to a nine-wicket win and clinching their place in the Super Eight stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
Chasing a modest target of 136, the Caribbean team made light work of the total, reaching 136-1 in just 15.2 overs. Their innings was characterized by calm, measured batting, spearheaded by captain Shai Hope and star batsman Shimron Hetmyer.
The chase started positively with an opening partnership of 43 runs between Brandon King and Shai Hope. King contributed a quick 22 off 17 balls, striking four boundaries before getting out. His departure did little to hinder West Indies’ momentum.
Hetmyer joined Hope at the crease, and the pair controlled the innings with precision, building an unbroken partnership that saw their side home with ease. Hope led the charge with an unbeaten 61 from 44 balls, marking his 10th T20I half-century with five fours and three sixes. Hetmyer complemented him perfectly, scoring 46 not out off 32 deliveries, including four boundaries and two sixes.
Prior to the batting display, West Indies’ bowlers laid the foundation for victory by keeping Nepal to 133-8 in their allotted 20 overs. Consistent line and length, combined with timely breakthroughs, ensured Nepal never gained significant momentum in their innings.
