Warwickshire Frustrated Over Hasan Ali’s Limited Availability Amid Pakistan Recall
Warwickshire County Cricket Club (CCC) has expressed deep frustration following the unexpected recall of star pacer Hasan Ali to Pakistan’s national squad for the ongoing T20I series against Bangladesh. The timing of the call-up has disrupted Warwickshire’s plans for the 2025 T20 Blast campaign, where Hasan was expected to play a key role.
The 30-year-old speedster had recently marked a strong return from injury during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10, where he picked up 17 wickets in just 10 matches for Karachi Kings. His impressive form caught the attention of Pakistan selectors, earning him a return to international cricket — but at the expense of his county commitment.
Warwickshire’s Chief Executive, Stuart Cain, didn’t hide his disappointment.
“The Hasan Ali situation is very frustrating. We believed we had assurances he would not be involved with the Pakistan side this summer,” said Cain.
He further highlighted the increasing difficulty faced by county clubs in securing overseas players for full seasons, pointing to tight international schedules and the lucrative nature of global T20 leagues.
“It’s very hard to find players that will both improve the squad and be available for the majority of the summer. In years gone by, it was much easier to get quality overseas players for an entire season, and for season after season,” he added.
Hasan Ali joined Warwickshire in 2023 and made an immediate impact, taking 24 wickets in the first half of the County Championship season. However, a mix of recurring injuries and national team duties has limited his participation in the T20 Blast over the past two years.
Warwickshire Head Coach Ian Westwood remains optimistic, despite the setbacks.
“He’s a Bear, he loves it here, and he’s a quality performer in all formats. He did well in the Championship previously, and we know his quality in T20s — both with the new ball and at the death. We’re looking forward to him joining us again in June,” Westwood told local media.
As Pakistan continues its T20I series, Warwickshire will be closely monitoring Hasan’s workload and availability. With expectations high for the upcoming Blast season, the club hopes their star pacer can replicate his PSL heroics once he returns to Edgbaston.
