DUBAI: Pakistan off-spinner Usman Tariq has firmly responded to critics questioning his bowling action, urging fans and commentators to educate themselves before making allegations or spreading misinformation.
The 28-year-old spinner recently found himself at the center of controversy during the International League T20 (ILT20) after an on-field moment reignited debate around his unorthodox action. Tariq, who joined Desert Vipers as a replacement player, made an immediate impact with a match-winning performance in the qualifier against MI Emirates.
Match-Winning Spell Sparks Fresh Debate
Tariq claimed three crucial wickets in the high-stakes encounter, including the dismissal of England batter Tom Banton. His spell played a key role in helping Desert Vipers secure a comfortable victory and advance to the ILT20 final.
However, moments after his dismissal, Banton was seen gesturing toward the umpire, apparently questioning Tariq’s bowling action. The gesture quickly fueled discussions on social media, with some critics reviving old “chucking” allegations against the Pakistani spinner.

Tariq Confirms Action Cleared Twice
Addressing the issue in an interview, Usman Tariq clarified that his bowling action has already been scrutinized and approved through official testing procedures. He emphasized that unlike several bowlers in the past, he never had to alter his action.
“Historically, when spinners face chucking allegations, they are sent for biomechanical testing and often have to remodel their action. That process can sometimes confuse spectators,” Tariq explained.
“I have gone through two official bowling action tests in Pakistan, and my action was cleared both times. I didn’t need to change anything because I know I am not throwing,” he added.
A Call for Cricketing Awareness
Tariq also addressed the broader issue of uninformed criticism, urging fans to develop a better understanding of the game before making judgments.
“If someone does not understand cricket and still comments or spreads opinions, it only harms knowledge. People should first try to understand the laws of the game,” he said.
The off-spinner has previously faced scrutiny over his action earlier in his career, which required formal testing. Since then, he has continued to bowl with confidence, relying on his natural variations and height to trouble batters.
Focus Remains on Performance
Despite the controversy, Tariq remains focused on contributing to his team’s success. His performance in the ILT20 knockout stage has strengthened Desert Vipers’ bowling unit at a crucial point in the tournament.
With the final approaching, the Pakistan spinner appears determined to let his performances speak louder than criticism, reinforcing his belief that compliance with the rules — and results on the field — are the ultimate response.
