LAHORE: The second batch of Pakistan’s T20 International squad left for Colombo on Monday as preparations intensify for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka, scheduled to begin on January 7. The group is led by newly appointed T20I captain Salman Ali Agha, marking another important step in Pakistan’s transition phase ahead of major international assignments in 2026.
The travelling contingent features a balanced mix of experienced campaigners and emerging talent. Among those departing were Mohammad Nawaz, Sahibzada Farhan, Usman Khan, Saim Ayub, Abrar Ahmed, Abdul Samad, and Khawaja Nafay. These players are expected to play key roles as Pakistan aims to build squad depth and consistency in the shortest format.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials stated that the staggered departure plan was designed to manage player workloads efficiently and ensure optimal preparation time in Sri Lankan conditions. The first batch of the squad had already reached Colombo earlier to begin training and acclimatisation sessions.
The Sri Lanka tour is seen as a significant opportunity for Pakistan’s revamped T20 side, particularly with several senior players rested as part of long-term workload management. The series will allow the team management to assess combinations, test bench strength, and identify match-winners ahead of future ICC events.

Captain Salman Ali Agha is expected to shoulder both leadership and batting responsibilities during the tour. His calm approach and recent domestic performances were key factors behind his elevation to the role. All-rounder Mohammad Nawaz will add valuable balance to the side, while Saim Ayub and Usman Khan are likely to provide aggressive options at the top of the order.
Spinner Abrar Ahmed, known for his mystery variations, could play a crucial role on Sri Lankan pitches, which traditionally assist spinners as matches progress. Meanwhile, young talents Abdul Samad and Khawaja Nafay will be keen to capitalise on their opportunities and cement their places in the national setup.
The touring party also includes batting coach Mohammad Hanif, along with several members of the national support staff. The coaching unit has planned intensive training sessions focusing on power-hitting, death-over execution, and fielding standards — areas Pakistan aims to improve ahead of the series.
The three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka will serve as a competitive test against a strong home side known for its adaptability in spin-friendly conditions. All matches are scheduled to be played in Colombo, with fans expecting closely contested encounters.
With the countdown to the opening match underway, Pakistan will be looking to start the year on a positive note, build momentum, and establish a clear direction for their T20 cricket moving forward.
