Pakistan’s national players have expressed heartfelt gratitude to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and the visiting Sri Lankan team for their decision to continue the white-ball series despite safety concerns raised by some players.
The tour faced uncertainty after reports emerged that several Sri Lankan players had requested to return home following the first ODI in Rawalpindi on November 12.
In response, Sri Lanka Cricket reassured its players that comprehensive security arrangements were in place, managed jointly by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and local authorities. The board instructed players and support staff to continue the series, adding that any player opting out would be replaced immediately to ensure the schedule remained unaffected.
Former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar lauded Sri Lanka’s commitment, writing on X (formerly Twitter):
“Thank you Sri Lanka Team for standing with cricket and defeating terrorism.”
Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja also welcomed the decision, stating:
“After a turbulent day, I’m pleased to know that the Sri Lanka tour is on! A collective effort from all sides will ensure cricket triumphs over chaos.”
Several current Pakistan players echoed similar sentiments.
Salman Ali Agha expressed deep thanks to the Sri Lankan board and players, urging fans to fill the stadiums for the remaining ODIs.
Shaheen Shah Afridi, Pakistan’s ODI captain, also encouraged supporters to attend the November 14 and 16 matches in large numbers.
Meanwhile, Haris Rauf called Sri Lanka’s decision “a victory for cricket.”
As per the updated schedule, the second ODI will now take place on Friday, November 14, while the final ODI is set for Sunday, November 16
