Harare, Zimbabwe – New Zealand cruised to a dominant seven-wicket victory over South Africa in the latest match of the Zimbabwe T20I Tri-Series at Harare Sports Club on Tuesday, showcasing a masterclass in bowling and batting efficiency.
Opting to field first, the Black Caps delivered a clinical bowling performance that restricted South Africa to a modest 134/8 in 20 overs. The Kiwi pacers, led by Jacob Duffy and Adam Milne with two wickets apiece, kept the Proteas under constant pressure. Zachary Foulkes was especially economical, conceding just 12 runs in his three-over spell.
Skipper Mitchell Santner praised his bowlers’ early impact:
“The way we bowled in the powerplay was outstanding. We found our lengths, got some swing, and from there, we were able to apply the squeeze.”
South Africa’s cautious start—just 18 runs in the first five overs—cost them momentum early. Their decision to load the bowling lineup with spinners backfired immediately. Left-arm spinner George Linde opened the defense with two wides, including a boundary, and dropped Tim Seifert at long-off before he scored. That over alone went for 15 runs, setting the tone for a dominant Kiwi chase.
New Zealand’s openers made light work of the run chase. Tim Seifert remained unbeaten on 66, guiding his team home with 25 balls to spare. He was ably supported by Devon Conway, who added a brisk 19 runs as the duo posted 50 within the first five overs.
With this win, New Zealand remains unbeaten in the tournament and heads confidently into the final, set to face South Africa again at the same venue on Saturday. Their earlier win against the Proteas by 21 runs further cements their position as tournament favorites.
