LAHORE: Karachi Kings skipper David Warner applauded his team’s grit after guiding them to a tense four-wicket victory over Lahore Qalandars at the Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday, emphasizing the value of hard-fought wins in the PSL.
At the post-match presentation, Warner acknowledged the match’s intensity, noting that the result demanded full focus and persistence.
“It wasn’t easy, that’s for sure. Shaheen Shah Afridi bowled brilliantly and took four crucial wickets, making it a tighter contest than we would have liked. But we managed to come through, and having two wins from two games is a great start,” he said.
Warner described the fixture as a showcase of the PSL’s competitive spirit, highlighting the excitement of a Sunday night clash between the city rivals.
“These matches are exactly what the tournament needs – high energy, high stakes. It was fantastic to be part of it,” he added.
Credit for the victory, Warner noted, went to a cohesive bowling attack, with both spin and pace making key contributions.
“Our spinners bowled really well together, and Mir Hamza and Hasan Ali also delivered when it mattered. Bowling in partnerships in the middle overs is really paying off, and the spinners are really thriving in these conditions,” he said.
The Australian batsman also reflected on the challenges of adapting to different venues and praised the curators for preparing competitive pitches.
“As a batsman, you sometimes need a few deliveries to settle in. That’s part of playing across multiple venues. Full credit to the curators – they’ve given us surfaces that allow cricket to be played and for matches to be competitive,” Warner explained.
