LAHORE: Bangladesh’s premier fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman has officially registered for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season, just days after being released from the Indian Premier League (IPL) by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
The 30-year-old left-arm pacer, widely respected for his deceptive cutters and exceptional control in the death overs, was picked by KKR for INR 9.20 crore during the IPL mini-auction held in December. Notably, Mustafizur was the only Bangladeshi cricketer to secure an IPL contract for the season.

However, Kolkata confirmed on Saturday that Mustafizur had been withdrawn from their squad following directions from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). While the franchise did not elaborate further, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia cited “recent developments” as the reason behind the decision, without providing specific clarification.

The move has sparked widespread discussion, particularly against the backdrop of increasingly strained diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh. Recent reports of attacks on minority communities in Bangladesh have heightened tensions between the two countries, with the issue now spilling over into the sporting arena.
In response to these developments, Bangladesh has reportedly suspended IPL broadcast transmissions within the country. Additionally, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has formally approached the International Cricket Council (ICC), requesting that Bangladesh’s matches in the upcoming T20 World Cup be shifted from India to Sri Lanka.
Amid this uncertainty, Mustafizur has turned his attention toward the PSL, a league where he has previously enjoyed success. The Pakistan Super League has confirmed that the Bangladesh pacer has entered the player draft for the next edition, which is expected to take place soon.
Mustafizur is no stranger to franchise cricket across the globe. Since making his IPL debut in 2016, he has represented multiple teams and claimed more than 60 wickets in the tournament, earning a reputation as one of the most effective left-arm fast bowlers in T20 cricket. His ability to deliver under pressure has made him a sought-after option in leagues worldwide.
In the PSL, Mustafizur earlier represented Lahore Qalandars, where his experience and variation proved valuable in high-pressure matches. His availability for the upcoming PSL season is likely to attract strong interest from franchises looking to strengthen their bowling attacks.
With the PSL continuing to grow as a competitive T20 league featuring top international talent, Mustafizur’s inclusion in the draft adds further intrigue. For the Bangladesh pacer, the league also presents an opportunity to remain active at the highest level of franchise cricket while uncertainties around the IPL persist.
As the PSL draft approaches, all eyes will be on whether Mustafizur Rahman secures a new home in Pakistan’s marquee T20 competition and how his presence could shape the upcoming season.
