After more than a decade away, Australia national cricket team are set to return to Zimbabwe for a bilateral One-Day International series, with Zimbabwe Cricket confirming a three-match schedule in September.
The fixtures will be played at the Harare Sports Club, with matches slated for 15, 18, and 20 September. Each encounter is scheduled to begin at 9:30am local time, giving fans in Harare the chance to witness elite 50-over cricket up close.
This tour carries historical weight, as it will be the first time in over ten years that Australia have played an ODI series on Zimbabwean soil. The last such meeting dates back to 2014, when both sides competed in a tri-nation tournament that also featured South Africa national cricket team.
For Zimbabwe, the upcoming series is more than just a high-profile contest. It forms a critical component of their long-term preparations for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, which the country will co-host alongside regional partners. Facing a top-tier opponent like Australia offers valuable match exposure as the team builds toward that global event.
Speaking on the announcement, Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givemore Makoni emphasized the importance of hosting such opposition, noting that regular competition against elite sides is essential for player development and overall team progression.
He also highlighted the broader impact of the tour, pointing out that it provides local supporters with a rare opportunity to experience world-class international cricket firsthand—an occasion expected to draw strong attendance at Harare’s premier venue.
