Cristiano Ronaldo is poised to make his return to Al Nassr following the resolution of a recent dispute with the Saudi Pro League club, sources revealed to ESPN Brasil.
The Portugal captain missed Al Nassr’s recent victories against Al Ittihad, a 2-0 win on Friday, and Al Riyadh last week, amid reported tensions related to the involvement of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) in club affairs. Ronaldo’s absence sparked speculation about his dissatisfaction with the PIF’s influence over transfers and the overall management of the Riyadh-based team.
According to insiders, the issues have now been addressed, clearing the way for Ronaldo to rejoin the squad. He is expected to feature in Al Nassr’s upcoming league fixture against Al Fateh on February 14. The club is also set to face Arkadag in the AFC Champions League Two on Wednesday.
The friction reportedly escalated when Al Hilal, another club majority-owned by the PIF, signed Ronaldo’s former Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema from Al Ittihad during the January transfer window. However, after constructive discussions and assurances from Al Nassr management, Ronaldo’s concerns were reportedly resolved.
Sources confirmed that overdue salaries have been paid, and authority has been reinstated to senior management. Sporting director Simão Coutinho and CEO José Semedo, both previously suspended, have resumed their roles, ensuring stability within the club.
Ronaldo has been in remarkable form this season, netting 18 goals and contributing three assists in 22 appearances across all competitions. His return is expected to bolster Al Nassr’s push for the Saudi Pro League title, as the club currently sits second, just one point behind league leaders Al Hilal.
The Saudi Pro League recently reiterated that no single player can dictate decisions beyond their club, emphasizing that all teams operate independently within the league’s regulations and financial framework. Ronaldo’s return signals a positive development for Al Nassr, who will rely on their star striker as they aim to maintain pressure on their title rivals in the final stretch of the season.
With the dispute resolved, fans can anticipate Ronaldo back in action, bringing his experience, leadership, and goal-scoring prowess to Al Nassr’s title ambitions.
