ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday announced a substantial cash reward for Pakistan’s Under-19 cricket team following their emphatic triumph in the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup 2025, celebrating a performance that has reignited national pride in Pakistan cricket.
The young Green Shirts received a hero’s welcome in the federal capital after registering a historic victory over arch-rivals India in the tournament final. Pakistan not only claimed the prestigious title but did so in dominant fashion, defending a massive total of 348 runs and dismissing India for just 156 in 26.2 overs to secure a commanding 191-run win.
In recognition of this remarkable achievement, the Prime Minister hosted a special luncheon in honour of the players and team management. Addressing the gathering, Shehbaz Sharif praised the discipline, confidence, and fighting spirit displayed by the young cricketers, describing their success as a symbol of Pakistan’s bright sporting future.
As a token of appreciation, the Prime Minister announced a cash reward of Rs 10 million for each player, acknowledging their hard work and dedication on the international stage. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, along with several federal ministers and senior officials, were also present at the ceremony.
Former Pakistan captain and current Pakistan U19 mentor Sarfaraz Ahmed later reiterated the Prime Minister’s announcement, expressing confidence that these young players would go on to serve the national team with distinction.
“The Prime Minister has announced Rs 10 million for each player. These boys have proved their talent, and they will continue to make Pakistan proud in the years to come,” Sarfaraz said.
He also highlighted the standout performances in the final, praising Sameer Minhas, who delivered a sensational innings of 172 runs off 113 balls, smashing 17 fours and nine sixes. Sarfaraz also commended Ahmed Hussain for his composed knock of 56 runs from 72 deliveries, which helped stabilize the innings at a crucial stage.
Pakistan U19 head coach Shahid Anwar credited the team’s success to long-term planning and a rigorous selection process. He revealed that a nationwide talent hunt began on June 17, involving around 70 players who were given multiple matches to showcase their abilities before final selection.
According to Anwar, a ten-day training camp in Karachi, supported by former international cricketers, played a key role in sharpening the squad’s technical and mental skills ahead of the tournament.
“Our mission was clear from the beginning — to win the trophy and earn the love of cricket fans back home,” Anwar said, emphasizing the unity and determination that defined the team’s journey.
The victory has been widely celebrated across the country, with fans and former players hailing the Pakistan U19 team as the foundation of a promising new era for national cricket.
