The rivalry between India and Pakistan is one of the most intense in world cricket, but recent border tensions have raised questions about whether the match should even go ahead.
Earlier, several former cricketers, including Harbhajan Singh, suggested that the fixture was unnecessary. Singh remarked during the World Championship of Legends (WCL), “Why give them so much importance? I believe India should not play at all. Wherever India plays, India will always win. But this match shouldn’t happen, and I’m confident they won’t play.”
Responding to such views, Wasim Akram shared his balanced perspective during a recent talk show. He said, “The Asia Cup schedule has been announced. India might face criticism, but in Pakistan, we are calm. For us, whether the match happens or not, the game must go on.”
Akram also reflected on the long break since the last India-Pakistan Test series, which took place back in 2007. He expressed hope but acknowledged the political hurdles:
“I hope it happens someday, but I think India might take a different stance. Politics aside, we are cricketers, not politicians. They love their country, and we love ours. Let’s respect each other and celebrate our own triumphs rather than go below the belt.”
Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Kedar Jadhav has also joined the debate, adding further intrigue to the much-awaited tournament.
With Asia Cup 2025 approaching, cricket fans worldwide eagerly await to see whether the marquee India vs Pakistan match will live up to its hype or face political roadblocks.
